More Licensing News and GALS! triumphant return

ADV has continued their announcing of licenses, which included the wonderfully inane Pani Poni Dash which is going to prove to be an interesting translation due to practically every scene being a parody from the obscure to the well known. ADV also announced the recent Guyver Biobooster Armour TV series, which is a new adaption of the old 80s anime and live action series, which featured a young male protaginist getting his hands on a piece of alien armour that allowed him to fight conspiracies and other bio-armoured bad peoples. Bandai America also continued its Gundam assault by announcing that they were going to be bringing over all three Zeta Gundam New Translation movies, which will definately appeal to the Gundam minions on this side of the Pacific. Also, the rightstuff, an online anime distributor and sort of licensor/dubber/subber has announced that they will be distributing the second season of Super GALS! which is a huge victory for all those who whined at ADV for only releasing the first season. It will be available as a box set for $49.99 US from the Rightstuff’ website starting December 1. It will apparently not be released to retail stores and perhaps be available through other online retailers, but for now, just the rightstuff’ website. The reason for this is that the show has not seen a dvd release in Japan, but has gained a cult status in North America due to its release. It is about a girl named Ran, who’ parent’ and brother are all cops and want her to coform and join the family trade, but who rebels and continually refuses and instead continues to be rapped up in the world of a GAL, which involves lusting after stylish clothes, dressing loudly, lots of make-up, jewellery, and hanging out in the fashion district of Tokyo, which is Shibuya. She doesn't just hang out there however, and patrols the area as a sort of gang leader/detective stopping wrong doers, helping friends, and keeping out her enemies. It is a highly recommended get and your’ truly is highly excited by this news. Thanks again to ANN for all the info!

Anime Expo 2006

Right Now in California, July 1-4 is the big anime/manga event of the year in North America. It is comparable to what E3 is for gamers in that all the big companies are there to announce their big licenses and push their products for the next year. There is also numerous fan forums, competitions like cosplay and karaoke, and all the stuff that you would expect from the biggest anime/manga convention on this side of the pacific. Licensing news has not been too major for the first two days, which included Funimation announcing Solty Rei and Witchblade, which was already known as their properties. Witchblade nevertheless is interesting considering it is a Japanese adaption of an American comic book. Yes, the one with the girl with the big claw… The also announced Glass Fleet, which is of note to scifi fans as it is a new space epic odyssey type show that has just began airing in Japan featuring a fleet of space ships in space of course. Geneon Entertainment also announced that they have picked up Paradise Kiss, which is loaded with style and is based off the stellar manga by Ai Yazawa which is already available over in old NA in glorious engrish, as well as Black Lagoon, which is a pretty decent action series. ADV announced that they have gone with Nerima Daikon Brothers and that is pretty much it so far. I am quite surprised by the low number of licenses so far, but that may pick up in the next few days so who knows. Thanks to ANN for all the news btw.
