If you are looking for a little bit of indie dork and offbeat goodness instead of the usual Christmas Craps I have a couple of links for you. The first is three zip files of mix cds made by some people with a more offbeat sense of strangeness that goes into making a Holiday Mix CD. One of them even includes R2D2 doing We Wish You a Merry Christmas! Pure Gold! Also for those who are into the Old School Oscillations of Commodore 64s check out 8 Bit Christmas. A humming and buzzing rendition of various 8 bit machines programmed for Christmas funk. All these are for direct download too by the way. Enjoy!

One of the best running comic series in Japan right now, from the same dude that did classics as Monster, Pluto, and Master Keaton, is 20th Century Boys. It weaves an intericate plot of suspense out of strange coicedences, intrigues, and supernatural elements to form a gripping narrative that only Naoki Urasawa can do. In 2008, a live action movie version has just been announced based on the series, and it is listed as "part 1" on the website too so there is a chance of MOAR!!! This follows recent live action comic adaptions out of Death Note and Nana that have scored huge at Japanese box office.

- Article Describing the news and a bit of plot
A detailed article I found posted today on Animenewsnetwork that explores the idea of internet fansubbing of anime as promotional tool for shows. It also gives a great short history of anime fansubbing and how the fandom in North America was virtually created with the practice back in the old vhs dub days, but it also talks a lot about how the internet is a tool for unregulated information, which Irma and I are always on about. Well worth a read.
