Greg Bear: Answering Some Questions, Finally

by Irma Arkus

Ahhh, the joys of Internets…is that we get to ask the great ones, like author Greg Bear, some questions.

There are but a handful of authors that I can call my favorites, and Greg Bear is in the top three, as far as I am concerned. Now, reddit has managed to get Mr. Bear (he he he) to answer some questions by fans.

So, check the reddit blog here, and ask away.

Meanwhile, if you are unfamiliar with Greg Bear’s masterpieces, I suggest you get crackin’ the books. Start with something lighter, such as “Darwin’s Radio” and continue that with sequel, “Darwin’s Children.” And then turn to some instant classics, like “Blood Music,” “Slant,” and “Dead Lines.”

I remember the first time I read one of Bear’s novels – one of the Mars series he produced way back when – and I was impressed. It is truly hard to find hard scifi writers better than Bear, and it is important to remind us of these few, good ones.

yeey Bear! I did not read his stuff until I listened to last year’s HiSciFi show, after which I actually did get into Darwin’s Radio and Blood Music, and he is amazing!!! I am so happy to find a writer who actually does smart, insightful, great scifi. Bear is so effin’ cool.

I love cheese but I also love Bear. Vitals is totally messy with grotesque imagery mixed in with some hard biology and microorganism stuff. And then there are the Mars books – which in my humble opinion kick the ass of all Mars trilogies or whatever around. And you’re bang on – Slant is one of the dirtiest genetic alt cyberthrillers to graze my desk. It sooooo rulz. Greg is a friggin genious.
