This week we bring you Starz Animation who made the animated feature “9” come to life.
The animated feature “9”, created and directed by Shane Acker, has been awaited in anticipation by fans of fine animation, and it has set a new bar for animation.
We are joined by David Steinberg of Starz Animation who is calling us from Starz Animation Toronto studio, a facility that made “9” into the animation feature of the year.
We also have Jason Christie, author of iRobot poetry whose work, though published for 3 years now, has only been gaining fans. Not only is his work turned into a theatre play, but there are fans who animated the poetry.

Loved 9!
loved the film. wasn’t as keen on the story, but the animation is amazing. Nice to know they are Can-Wizards. oh yeah sweet Maple.

9 is lovely
really beautiful film. When I spoke to David, one of the things we discussed is the fact that he really loves animation in general - I was impressed, but had to point out that he should probably get to watch Paprika. I know many of you haven’t but if you liked Ponyo, you will really enjoy that too.

re: sweet maple
Whoow there, that is a part of an American company, like pretty much all the corporations in Canada. Don’t go all sweet on me.
What is sweet is this show though. Thanks for the interview!

re:sweet maple
dunno man. Canadians are making this animation look pretty easy. I guess you can think of it as “South Korea to the North.” There, that should make you breathe easier. Remember: US no 1, US no 1

Very cool
I am listening to your show for the first time and it’s AWESOME! I got to watch 9 and it’s kind of nice to see a film made in Canada even though nobody knows its made in Canada. I am off to drown my sorrows in maple now.

hate these kind of interviews where you ask them about a relatively creative process and they give you a mechanical industrial process that sounds like some kind of animation factory with Korean kids lined up to create shapes.
