Update: Witchblade, The Movie
by Irma Arkus
BD Horror News leaked news that Witchblade, currently in pre-production for 2010 release, directed by Michael Rymer, is not only planned as a feature film, but one that will quickly experience a sequel.
Apparently, Top Cow and Arclight are working on an immediate sequel. One that may be simultaneously shot, a la Lord of the Rings.
I am excited. Not only does Witchblade provide for some jolly good times, but may give us that extra dose of estrogen I’ve been craving on the big screen. Now we just need to wait for casting….

Cool
Noice. Girls with swords kicking some serious ass. I completely agree with the whole “not enough girls with superpowers” - for some reason, it seems that they are only allowed to exercise their superpowers on TV, instead of film. Weird. So, it will be nice to see something like this. I just hope it lives up to quality of IronMan/Dark Knight.

More than eyecandy
I think this is gonna do okay in balancing out the men vs women with superpowers thing. I used to collect Witchblade comics, amongst others (I bought whatever Marc Silvestri was doing). I remember that despite the copious amounts of eyecandy (the Witchblade-armor kinda extends across the skin and shreds clothing in the process), the comic had a near 50/50% male/female fanbase. That’s because Sarah Pezzini, the Witchblade-wielder you see in the thumbnail, is so intelligent, strong-willed and self-conscious, she was an inspiration to many girls.

RE: More than eyecandy
Ditto on Mark Silvestri - Irma is right, the eyecandy aside, Pezzini shows brains and guts, and instinct. I love the idea of Witchblade, and it’s true - this just may be the thing to look for, as the ratio of female to male superheroes is just dismal. I don’t want to look towards my daughters oogling “the Women” as ideals to look up to. Witchblade will be a welcome change of pace, and she might be dead sexy, but she represents those ballsy features that seem to be amiss right now.
Yeey for Witchblade!!!
