Robot Ethics

According to a BBC article the South Korean government is drafting legislation with the specific goal of establishing a code of ethics for robot and human relations. It is being drafted by a group of futurists and even a scifi writer, which is interesting considering elected members usually do all the legislating around these parts. Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see what rights robots will get, but more importantly what they will define a robot as. Is it as simple as a toaster oven? Or are computers technically robots? Does that mean throwing them in garbage and yelling at them for burning things abuse? Do androids truly drea of electric sheep? Who knows. The point is though that this legislation will be truly forward looking but perhaps also raise some interesting philosophical as well as ethical questions about how we deal with technology on a daily basis.
