Charlton Heston: Remembering a Conservative Sci-Fi Icon

by Irma Arkus

Charlton Heston has passed away today, leaving behind an unprecedented legacy of science fiction films.

While many remember him as a republican icon with a strong pro-gun-ownership message and roles that identified him as a Biblical messenger, science fiction fans everywhere will mourn a man who has been a hero in many beloved films central to the genre.

From Planet of The Apes, The Omega Man and Soylent Green, Heston has successfully embodied the all-American hero in cinematography. Politics aside, the science fiction films Heston starred in, represent some of most controversial and beloved films of the 1970s.

He may not be missed, but will be remembered.
